+ Fall Pet Care Tips
Hey, Petlovers!
Lola & Herbie felt outmatched by the dog who made it to the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza. We anticipated their attempt to one-up that dog.
The night after news broke about the pyramid dog, our search history shows that Lola & Herbie googled all of the Wonders of The World, from the Great Wall of China to the Colosseum of Rome.
It seems they planned to parachute down onto Machu Picchu while live-streaming. Fortunately, we froze all of our credit cards last week just in case.

This Dog Has a Way With Words
This dog’s name is Mimosa, and his owner was shocked when he started grumbling and barking out things that sounded like actual words.
He’s only a young dog, but his vocabulary includes phrases like “so what?”, “I need to run”, “park, now!”, and “get up!”
You have to see it to believe it.
Mimosa’s greatest quality, though, is his ability to comfort his owner whenever she’s feeling blue and needs a loving friend.

Fall Pet Care Essentials
Autumnal Tips for Our Furry Friends
As humans, we do our part to prepare ourselves for fall. We might dig through storage to retrieve our favorite cozy sweaters, break out the rake and start gathering leaves, and make sure that the heat works to prepare for winter.
Some of us might even stock up on Zyrtec or run to the clinic for an annual flu shot to safeguard our health for the upcoming cold.
There are some similar things we can do to help our pets enjoy the fall as well. This guide offers some quick pointers that most of us know but may forget, and even some things that we weren’t aware of before learning more about seasonal pet care.
Let’s take a look! 🍂
1. Allergies & Environmental Changes
As fall arrives, many pets can experience seasonal allergies. Keep an eye out for symptoms like:
Itching and Scratching: Frequent scratching or biting at their skin.
Sneezing or Coughing: Signs of respiratory discomfort.
Red Spots & Bumps: These can be from allergies, or they could be from bug bites. In either case, itchy bumps can turn into hot spots if your dog or cat doesn’t leave them alone.
The decomposition of fallen leaves can lead to mold, which can exacerbate these symptoms. To help manage allergies:
Regular Bathing: Bathe your pet to remove allergens from their coat.
Clean Environment: Keep your home clean and free of dust and mold.
If symptoms persist, consult your veterinarian for appropriate treatments or allergy testing.
2. Halloween Safety
Halloween can be a fun time, but it also poses risks for pets. Keep your furry friends safe with these tips:
Candy Caution: Keep chocolate and sugary treats out of reach. Even small amounts can be toxic to pets.
Costume Considerations: If dressing up your pet, ensure the costume fits well and doesn’t restrict movement or vision.
When trick-or-treaters come to the door, consider keeping your pet in a quiet room to reduce anxiety. Also, be mindful of decorations that could be harmful if ingested.
Keeping Dogs Calm on Halloween
Many pets experience anxiety during Halloween due to noise and unfamiliar visitors. Here are some tips to help keep your dog calm:
Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy area away from the commotion, with their favorite toys and blankets.
Calming Aids: Consider using calming chews, like LolaHemp Calming Chews. These contain CBD and other natural ingredients that can help reduce anxiety.
These chews are designed to soothe pets during stressful situations, making them a great option for Halloween night. Always consult your veterinarian before introducing new products to your pet’s routine.
3. Easy-to-Forget Routine Changes
As the weather cools, it’s important to adjust your pet’s routine for their comfort and health. Some dogs start shedding, we humans go outdoors a great deal less as things cool down, and dogs get less exercise as a side-effect.
Grooming Needs: Regular grooming is essential to manage shedding and maintain a healthy coat as it changes for winter. Brush your pet more frequently to reduce loose hair and dander.
Dietary Adjustments: If your pet becomes less active during fall, consider adjusting their diet to prevent weight gain. Monitor their food intake and consult your vet for recommendations on portion sizes or food types.
Commit to Frequent Walks: We often don’t realize the amount that we cut down on walking as it cools down, maybe even just saying “we’ll get out extra tomorrow!” and forgetting. Do your best to commit to getting outside daily with your dog, for your health and theirs!
Indoor Activities to Try
As outdoor playtime decreases, keeping your pets engaged indoors is essential.
Interactive Toys: Invest in puzzle toys that challenge your pet mentally. These toys can keep them occupied and stimulate their minds.
Training Sessions: Use this time to reinforce commands or teach new tricks. Short, positive training sessions can be fun for both you and your pet.
Hide and Seek: Play games where you hide treats or toys around the house for your pet to find. This taps into their natural foraging instincts.
Play Dates: If your pet enjoys socializing, invite a friend’s pet over for a play date. Supervised interaction can provide great exercise and companionship.
We hope this tips help you and your pet embrace Autumn. Happy fall, everyone!

Watch the emotional reunion of a family with their dog who was separated from them in the midst of Hurricane Helene. Their pets weren’t with them as their house disappeared in the rising flood waters, separating from its foundation and floating downstream.
Then, a video on social media showed their beloved dog being rescued from the matted branches of a tree 20 feet off the ground. She was sitting in a collection of driftwood that had been caught in the tree before waters receded.
By all accounts, she was the sweetest dog to all rescuers, and her family is overjoyed that they have each other and their dog all safely together.
