💌 Obese Weiner Dog Finally Gets Support

+ Could You Have The Next Air Bud?

Hey, Petlovers!

Apparently, they’re on the hunt for the modern re-make of Air-Bud. Lola got wind of the search this morning, and she’s been out back in football pads doing sprints and trying to tackle piles of leaves all morning.

We don’t have the heart to tell her they’re only looking for Golden Retrievers. If you see her out there, don’t say anything.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff:

🏈 Could Your Dog Be The Next Air Bud?

This week, we went searching for the next Air Bud… and while we didn’t find a slam-dunking retriever (yet), we did discover something even better: a whole world of fun, health-boosting activities you can do with your dog.

Whether your pet is a natural-born athlete or more of a snack-motivated sidekick, getting outdoors and moving together is one of the best ways to support their mental and physical health. So in today’s guide, we’re diving into dog sports, exercise tips, when to slow it down, and yes — whether your pup might just be the next golden superstar. 🏀

🐕‍🦺 Outdoor Games to Try

You don’t need to be training for the Puppy Bowl to have a blast outside with your dog. Some of the most rewarding (and hilarious) activities are super simple:

  • Fetch with a twist: Add variation with long-distance tosses, obstacles, or multiple balls at once (good luck).

  • Agility at home: Use cones, laundry baskets, broomsticks, and cushions to create your own mini obstacle course.

  • Trail runs & hikes: Great for higher-energy dogs who love new smells and long trots. Bonus: keeps you fit too.

  • Soccer & frisbee: Herding breeds and retrievers often love chasing after fast-moving objects.

  • Swimming: A low-impact workout that’s fantastic for joint support, especially in warmer months.

If you’re looking for structured sports, options like dock diving, flyball, rally obedience, and canicross (yes, running with your dog harnessed to you) are more accessible than ever.

💤 When to Dial It Back — and What to Watch For

Not every dog is built for intense activity — and that’s okay.

Here are some signs your pup may need to slow down or stick to more mellow play:

  • Brachycephalic breeds (like Frenchies, Bulldogs, and Pugs) can overheat or tire quickly.

  • Senior dogs often need gentler movements, more frequent breaks, and joint-friendly surfaces.

  • Paws & pads can get scraped or burned on hot pavement or rough terrain — always check after outdoor play.

  • Sudden fatigue, limping, or heavy panting means it’s time to stop and rest. Never push through.

Also, don’t forget hydration — bring extra water and take frequent breaks, even on cool days.

🏆 So... Do You Have the Next Air Bud?

Probably not. But you might — if you have a Golden Retriever and access to a basketball court.

All jokes aside, we hope today’s guide gives you new ways to bond with your pet, boost their health, and laugh a little in the process. Whether you’re tossing a frisbee at the park or setting up hurdles in your backyard, the goal isn’t to win medals — it’s to make memories.

But if you do have a purebred Golden with great hops, you should know: the search for the next Air Bud is ongoing… 🐕

Let us know how you and your pup stay active — or if you need ideas tailored to your breed or pet’s age, we’re happy to help.
