💌 Senior Dog Volunteers as Railway Greeter

🚉 A Warm Welcome on the Platform – Kenilworth railway station has a new four-legged greeter: Bertie the border terrier, who now joins volunteers in bringing extra joy to daily commuters.
🐾 Part of the Team – With his own little high-vis jacket, Bertie helps “quality check” the station gardens and spreads smiles as he happily meets passengers.
🌟 Community Spirit in Action – Thanks to the Station Adopters program, Bertie and his owner are showing how small touches — and wagging tails — can make stations feel more inviting and connected to their communities.
🧠 Could Your Pet Be Bored?

It’s a strange question to ask—especially when your dog is snoozing in the sun or your cat is curled up in their favorite window. But boredom in pets doesn’t always look the way we expect. In fact, it can show up as things we often dismiss: barking “just because,” chewing furniture, waking us up at 3 a.m., or even sleeping more than usual.
We often think of food, safety, and affection as the pillars of pet care—but mental stimulation is just as important. And unlike in the wild, where every day brings new challenges, our pets rely on us to keep life interesting.
How Do You Know If Your Pet Needs More to Do?

It’s not about diagnosing a problem—it’s about paying attention.
Has your dog been extra clingy lately, or suddenly mischievous? Has your cat been grooming one spot more than usual, or picking on their feline housemate? These can be signs of an animal looking for something to engage with—some kind of outlet for their natural curiosity, intelligence, or energy.
Even pets with calm demeanors benefit from variety: new smells, new games, new patterns in their day. They don’t need constant activity—but they do need enrichment that fits their personality.
Boredom doesn’t always look dramatic. But here are some red flags to keep an eye out for:
Excessive barking or meowing without clear triggers
Destructive behavior, especially when left alone
Overgrooming or obsessively licking one spot
Restlessness, pacing, or interrupting you constantly
Sluggishness or oversleeping beyond normal napping
Sudden clinginess or demand for attention
Picking fights with other pets
Even subtle versions of these behaviors can be signs your pet’s brain is asking for more stimulation, structure, or variation in their routine.

So, What Can You Do?
Here’s the good news: it doesn’t take hours of your day or expensive gadgets. Just a little creativity and consistency.
🐕 For Dogs:
Scent walks: Let them lead and sniff freely for 10–15 minutes.
Food puzzles or snuffle mats: Make meals more engaging.
Micro-training: Teach fun, low-stakes tricks like “touch” or “spin.”
Rotation of toys: Keep a few hidden and reintroduce weekly.
Frozen lick mats or treat toys: Mentally soothing and satisfying.
🐈 For Cats:
Vertical space: Add shelves or window perches for climbing and surveying.
Prey play: Wand toys or electronic mice to mimic hunting.
Cardboard obstacle courses or tunnels for curiosity.
Hide-and-seek: Place treats in different spots for daily “missions.”
Interactive feeders: Slow down meals and get them thinking.
🚩 Final Take

A mentally stimulated pet is more confident, calm, and connected to their environment. You don’t have to overhaul your life—just start small. A new game. A 10-minute sniff session. One extra puzzle feeder. Your pet’s whole world can open up with the tiniest shift in how they experience their day.
