šŸ• Therapy Dog is Half Bunny šŸ‡

+ Evidence that pets are actual super heroes

Hey, Petlovers!

We’re taking this week to celebrate pets that behave like superheroes (so, pretty much all pets). From the ones who go above and beyond to save lives, to the ones who sit by your side and offer the kind of love and support that a human could never match.

Herbie’s special super power is the uncanny ability to be extremely cute and annoying at the same time. Scientists and cat experts alike try to understand him, but they cannot.

šŸ‡ šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ Therapy Dog Hops Like a Bunny

  • 🐶 Roland had a breakthrough moment one day. All of the sudden, he realized he could cover more ground if he hopped like a bunny. It’s not in his genes, and he wasn’t trained to do this. He simply figured it out, and now he won’t stop hopping.

  • šŸ’Œ He’s a certified therapy dog, and one of his methods of bringing joy is to simply leap and bound like a doe through a cornfield. He truly is incredible and silly all at once.

  • šŸ¦øā€ā™‚ļø (in the spirit of this week’s theme, Roland is wearing a superhero cape throughout this video)

  • šŸ• Meet Roland in the video below and see the incredible bounce that has brought joy to so many.

Tiny Dog Saves Trapped Hiker from Glacier

  • 🐾 Tiny Dog, Huge Hero: A pint-sized pup—likely a chihuahua or papillon—helped save his owner after the hiker fell 8 meters into a glacier crevasse in the Swiss Alps.

  • 🚁 Rescue in the Snow: The loyal dog waited by the hole and caught the eye of a rescue helicopter crew, who were struggling to locate the fallen man on the vast glacier.

  • ā¤ļø Faithful to the End: Thanks to the dog’s persistence (and some well-timed barking), both man and dog were safely rescued and flown to a nearby hospital. A true four-legged lifesaver!

10 Pieces of Proof That Pets are Super Heroes

You already know dogs have great noses and cats always land on their feet—but there’s a whole other level of weird, incredible, and little-known science behind our pets. From war heroes to built-in compasses to biological superpowers, here are 10 strange but true facts most people have never heard before.

1. Dogs Can Smell the Passage of Time

As scent particles in the air shift and fade, dogs can detect changes in concentration of those particles—essentially giving them a sense of time. It’s how many dogs seem to ā€œknowā€ when you’re about to walk through the door. It’s a little complicated, but true.

2. Cats Can Locate Prey Using Only Their Ears

Each ear has 32 muscles and can move independently. Cats use them like radar to triangulate sounds—pinpointing prey within inches even in total darkness.

3. Some Dogs Understand Language at a Toddler Level

A Border Collie named Chaser learned over 1,000 nouns and could distinguish between objects and categories. She even understood basic grammar and remembered words for years—putting her ahead of many primates in language tests.

4. A Dog Was Once Venerated as a Saint

In 13th-century France, a greyhound named Guinefort was killed after mistakenly being thought to harm a baby—when in fact, he had saved the child from a snake. Locals declared him a folk saint, and families prayed to him for their children’s health for centuries.

5. A Cat Survived Three Warship Sinkings

During WWII, a black-and-white cat known as Unsinkable Sam survived the sinking of the Bismarck, the HMS Cossack, and the HMS Ark Royal. He was found alive after each disaster, calmly floating on wreckage.

6. Dogs Can Detect Cancer With Over 90% Accuracy

Trained detection dogs have identified cancer from breath, urine, or sweat samples—sometimes more accurately than lab tests. Some hospitals are now exploring them as part of early detection programs.

7. Some Dogs Have Extra Toes for Climbing

Breeds like the Norwegian Lundehund and Beauceron have an unusual trait: double dewclaws. These extra toes act like built-in crampons, helping them grip rocks and steep slopes while working in mountainous terrain.

8. šŸ• Dogs Can Smell in 3D

Because each of a dog’s nostrils works independently, they can determine not just what something is—but exactly where it is in space. This stereo-smelling ability helps them track moving scents with pinpoint precision, like a built-in GPS powered by smell.

9. A Dog Survived a Fall from 11,000 Feet

A Belgian Malinois named Antis parachuted into combat zones with his handler in WWII. He completed multiple jumps, survived battlefield conditions, and was awarded the Dickin Medal for bravery.

10. One Dog Had a Broadway Career That Outlasted Most Humans

Terry, the Cairn Terrier who played Toto in The Wizard of Oz, appeared in 15 films and earned more money than many human actors. She even had her own Hollywood memorial.

Final Thoughts on Our Super Pets šŸ¦øšŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

Pets are more than companions—they’re full of mystery, history, and unexpected abilities. Whether it’s sniffing cancer, surviving wartime shipwrecks, or understanding words like a toddler, our dogs and cats are incredible.

Show your best friend a little extra love now that you know how powerful they are!
